Post History
In the Spring of 2025 Legionnaires and Auxiliary member along with fellow veterans met to explore the possibility of chartering another American Legion Post in Lake City or within Columbia County, Florida, the home of more that 9,000 veterans. During this meeting the foundation was planted that the more than 90% of Columia County Veterans and their families need an opportunity to connect with others in a family centric environment.
In June of 2025 17 Legionnaires and Veterans applied for their Temporary Charter of SGT James D "Jimmy" Campbell - USMC American Legion Post in Lake City Florida. Shorly there after a gentleman, fellow veteran allowed us the use of his land and building as a meeting place for our Post.
In July 2025, we held our first Post Installation of Officers in which our first Executive Committee was installed: Commander - Mark Beebe, First Vice Commander - Thomas Johnson, Finance Officer - Charles Caldwell, Chaplain - Befaithful Coker, Historian - Kimberly Beebe, Seargent-at-Arms - Michael McKinzey, Adjutant - Michael Ziegler, Service Officer - Rustyann Brown.
From there we began to grow our newly formed yet at this time unofficial post and hosting small events at our Post home. In September 2025, We hosted our Department of Florida, Commander, Jessica Moore, during her District 3 Visit. During Nation Convention, We received our Temporary Charter, this marked a huge milestone in our history, as we were able to officially function as an American Legion Post. From there we held several fundraisers, participated in community events; like Lake City Trunk or Treat, Veterans Day Parade, Christmas Parade. In December, we held our Post Dedication in which Emily Kimberling, Jimmy's daugher and her husband Ryan were in attendance.
In November 2025 our Auxiliary Unit 423 recieved there charter.
In March 2026 our Legion Rider applied for there charter and are hoping to receive that soon.
